Daisy Han-Ying Hsieh
Dr. Daisy Han-Ying Hsieh, originally from Taiwan, has enjoyed a rich and diverse career as an active soloist, musician and teacher throughout North America and Asia. Ms. Hsieh is a classically trained singer, and she is a recent graduate of the Catholic University of America, where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice performance. During her time there, she studied extensively with tenor Rick Christman and soprano Fabiana Bravo. In 2011 she received Graduate Performance Diploma at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in voice performance. Previously, she obtained Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Music degree from Taipei National University of America in voice performance.
Her past operatic performances include Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Despina (Così fan tutte), Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief) and Morgana (Alcina). Ms. Hsieh’s spanning genres are from opera, art songs to contemporary style in multiple languages. Additionally, Ms. Hsieh is not only an enthusiastic musician but also a dedicated teacher with in-depth knowledge of music theory. Currently Ms. Hsieh’s students range from as young as 5-year-old to adults at all ability levels. With an interactive teaching style, she embraces different approaches to meet the individual needs of students’ various learning goals. Her teaching philosophy is that nothing is more important to make the student love music because it is a helpful way to unlock students’ full potential. Ms. Hsieh’s favorite thing about teaching young kids is their creative thoughts, natural instinct and beautiful innocence. She loves helping them accomplish something they didn't believe they could. Whether it's a huge milestone or a small goal, every step is an achievement. Besides, communication and trust between parents and teacher is a crucial part of teaching young students since she believes teaching is about building lasting relationship with each family. She also loves the journey to accompany teenager students to see them grow. They start to discover themselves to build their own taste and choose new songs for working on. It’s also exciting to know them better through their choices of the pieces. When Ms. Hsieh sees her students smile after they nail a part of their song or hit that money note, she knows she’s doing her job! The most fascinating aspect about teaching adults is their passion and philosophy to music. They are always eager to learn and interested to know the background of each composition in-depth. Ms. Hsieh really enjoys the learning journey with her every single student.
Jenny earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Management at Frostburg State University. At Frostburg, she studied many styles of voice performance including classical and Broadway. She gained valuable experience while performing in numerous concerts throughout her time at Frostburg. She performed concerts in several languages including French, Italian and German. She also attended classes for music theory, piano, and music business. While in college, Jenny earned the exciting opportunity to perform the National Anthem for the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.
After graduation, Jenny began touring locally in Maryland with several bands. Their styles range from county and bluegrass to pop and rock. She enjoys recording albums and demos for other songwriters and helping with their musical projects. Jenny enjoys teaching students of all ages that share her passion for music and want to improve their craft. She thinks it is important for all students to be able to accomplish their goals; no matter how big or small. She focuses on making each lesson fun and enjoyable for her students while offering proper technique, theory, and musical knowledge.
Currently pursuing Master of Music degree in voice performance at Peabody Institute. Bachelor of Music degree from Eastman School of Music in voice performance. Recipient of Howard County Arts Council Scholarship, Howard Hanson Scholarship and George Eastman Scholarship. Performed as a soloist with the Peabody Concert Orchestra , Peabody Singers and Peabody-Hopkins Chorus.
Over 30 years of experience teaching children in various settings, including private lessons, directing choirs, and teaching music classes in schools. Worked as a choir director, organist and pianist in various churches. Master's degree from Catholic univ, in DC. Native of Korea, speaks both Korean and English. Resides in Howard county with her husband and their 5 children
Molly Young is a classically trained singer in Baltimore. She holds degrees in vocal performance and early music from Peabody Conservatory and Western Michigan University. She performs regularly throughout Baltimore and DC as a soloist and chamber musician, spanning genres from opera to Renaissance choral music to new compositions. She works with students on all styles of singing, with specializiation in classical and musical theatre repertoire. Molly also teaches beginning to intermediate piano to students of all ages.
